Email PresidentMy love of animals started at a very young age. For 56 years there has never been a time that there was not an animal in our home.

I have had dogs and I hate that word, cats, gerbils, hamsters, horses, fish and even a bird.

I have cared for and loved each one of them as if they were my own blood.

I knew at the age of 12 years old I would be involved in a shelter in some manner.  At 12 years old I broke into our local animal shelter to let all of the dogs out. We could not stand the way they were treated or euthanized. That was one of the last good country whippings I ever received by my mama. But in the end, it was worth every lick that she gave me. For that day I started saving animals.

I will not stop as long as there is air in my lungs and energy in my body.

Please be a part of my passion.

Email PresidentMy first pet was a puppy I found at the convenience store drinking water from a puddle filled with oil and antifreeze. We named her Penny because she was copper-colored. From that day forward I brought home every stray, adopted when I could and have occasionally fostered. Currently, we have a house full of pets including 2 dogs, a bird, 2 tortoises and 4 snakes.

Email Grant WriterI choose to work with and for animals because I believe they show the purest form of love possible on this earth.  My rescue pup, Riley, was there for me with unconditional love shown by snuggles, a head pressed to my side, and wet nose kisses through some of the most emotionally challenging moments of my life.  It took about 8 months to earn her trust, but that trust and devotion were returned in infinite ways.  There are so many animals who need love and have love to share; because I cannot adopt each one, I choose to try to help those in my adopted home of Berkeley County, SC.  I utilize my passion for writing to seek grants, funding, and donations. My previous experience teaching, planning events, volunteering and working with other nonprofits, and my love for animals drives me to support our local animal center in all the ways I can. I hope all citizens, native born or newly arrived, will join us in our mission to see all animals in Berkeley County well cared for, including being responsible pet owners who spay/neuter and give preventative heart worm treatment to their animals.
